In the coming weeks, Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente will announce his 26-man squad for this summer’s European Championship in Germany. His pre-list has already been revealed, and one of the names included is Real Betis’ midfield maestro Isco Alarcon.

Isco has had an outrageous debut season with Los Verdiblancos, which has led to increased calls for his inclusion in Spain’s squad for Euro 2024. He’s yet to be called up since joining Betis, which has bewildered supporters, although that’s not to say that his chances of going to Germany are dead in the water.

Still, it’s far from certain that he will get the call, although if it were up to his manager at Betis, Manuel Pellegrini, he’d be one of the first picks – quotes via Marca.

“I don’t know if he’s been the best Spanish player, but he’s having a remarkable season. He’s at a very high level, and his numbers and the physical moment he’s in show it. He’s been an important contribution and I’d be on a stellar team in the league.

“99% of people would say he is going to be at the European Championship.”

It remains to be seen whether Isco does get the nod from de la Fuente. His performances over the final three matches of Real Betis’ season could end up being a significant deciding factor.
