San Francisco 49ers could capture the attention of the 1972 Miami Dolphins in 2024 season
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Are the San Francisco 49ers going to go undefeated in 2024? It's highly unlikely, and head coach Kyle Shanahan would likely balk at the mere suggestion of such an achievement.

But the oddsmakers response to the release of the 49ers' 2024 schedule is one that suggests the 1972 Miami Dolphins should be watching them closely.

The 49ers, per DraftKings Sportsbook, are favored in all 17 of their games on the 2024 schedule.

Only the '72 Dolphins have gone through a full regular season undefeated and gone on to win the Super Bowl. The 2007 New England Patriots completed a full regular season without losing a game but infamously lost the Super Bowl to the New York Giants.

Though the 49ers were the clear class of the NFC last year and were only a play away from winning the Super Bowl, it's perhaps a little surprising to see them favored in every single game. The Niners have a Super Bowl rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs on their schedule, along with difficult road games against the likes of the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills.

Rather than being an indication that the oddsmakers think the 49ers will win every game, the 49ers' status as favorites for all 17 weeks is reflective of just how much faith there is in Kyle Shanahan's team to maintain the absurdly high standards they have set in recent years.

The 49ers closed as favorites in all 17 of their regular-season games last season, finishing with a record of 12-5, though one of their losses was in a meaningless Week 18 game with the Los Angeles Rams that saw both teams rest their starters.

Their chances of translating the status of favorites in every single game into a perfect 2024 season are obviously slim. However, with the Niners — per Sharp Football Analysis — having the easiest schedule in the NFL across the first six weeks of the season, don't rule out them starting the season on a red-hot run that at least captures the '72 Dolphins' attention.
