Carlos Sainz reportedly did not respond to Audi’s deadline for 2025 drive
Lucas Peltier-USA TODAY Sports

Carlos Sainz ‘s future beyond 2024 remains uncertain after being replaced by Ferrari for 2025. The 29-year-old has been approached by multiple constructors allegedly and has to make a decision soon. Amongst the plethora of options, Audi had provided Sainz with a two-week ultimatum to confirm his seat in Sauber and then Audi. However, now it has been found out that Sainz did not respond to the ultimatum at all.

Carlos Sainz‘s ‘two-week ultimatum’ to join Audi in 2026 meant that the 29-year-old would have to race for Sauber in 2025. However, this wouldn’t pay dividends to the Spaniard in terms of his racing career due to the Swiss team’s slump in performance. Sainz however did not respond to the two-week ultimatum by Audi according to reports. With Audi signing Nico Hulkenberg and actively looking for a second driver, the Spaniard’s lack of interest might cancel out his chances to work for the German manufacturer.

Journalist Antonio Lobato provided some more information regarding the entire scenario. Lobato highlighted that accepting Audi’s offer might have given some ‘peace of mind’ to him. Carlos Sainz decided to take the risk and keep on waiting for a chance at Mercedes or even Red Bull. However, these possibilities would only be worth it if Max Verstappen decides to move to Mercedes in 2025.

Accepting Audi would have given him peace of mind as well as a good economic offer, but Sainz preferred to take the risk to see if he will find a place in a more competitive team. Antonio Lobato said, as reported by formulapassion.it.

Carlos Sainz admits he hasn’t decided where to go yet in 2025

Carlos Sainz still faces great uncertainty over his future in Formula 1. If Sainz fails to secure a seat in a good constructor, the entire attempts of the 2024 season would be futile. Speaking on leaving Ferrari, Sainz reckoned that it was both, a positive and a negative period. The positive part was that the season’s start was one of the best in his career. However, ending ties with Maranello in 2025 made the Spaniard feel down.

On the one hand it is a positive period, because I am making a good start to the year, I am driving well and giving my best for Ferrari. On the other hand, I'm a little ’ down because I don't continue with Ferrari, and I would have liked to have continued a few more years. Carlos Sainz said, as reported by formulapassion.it.

However, despite leaving the team, Sainz claimed that he had a great time racing for the Italian constructor. The 29-year-old will find the best possible team for the coming season and hopefully continue in F1. The offers were present on the table, all that was left for the 29-year-old was to himself finalize the teams.

Obviously, however, it is a good time, I will find the best compromise for next year. I have to see all the offers, in my head I have not yet decided where to go. Carlos Sainz noted.

Carlos Sainz’s 2024 performances will surely help him greatly during contract negotiations for the 2025 season. As things are, Sainz could enter Mercedes, but George Russell would still be the ‘lead driver’. Additionally, a Red Bull scenario would be possible if Sergio Perez performs poorly or Max Verstappen decides to leave. Hence, a lot of factors will have to come into play to ensure entry to these teams.
